Gasebonwe was a Tlhaping chief (1858 to 1890) in southern Bechuanaland when the discovery of diamonds (1870) in the area caused huge social, political and economical change. Gasebonwe was based at Phokwani, a short distance north of Kimberley, and is revered for his resistance of the colonisation of the Tlaping.
