Over the past few years, many have observed that South Africa,
who at some point was the beacon of successful economic
development on the African continent, seems to be on a downward
trend. There is no doubt that the country is facing challenges –
rising unemployment has brought about poor living conditions and
an increase in crime. These issues and the increased cost of living
have caused many citizens to be very unhappy, frustrated and
angry. I have observed the sad and hopeless expressions on the
faces of many citizens. This painting is an interpretation of one of
these faces.
