Maud Sumner’s artistic development underwent a drastic change during the period 1947 to 1954. Charles Eglington writes: … all artists of strong creative vitality feel the need for development, and hence of change. They are not content to limit their range of achievement, to go on repeating what they can already do well; they become dissatisfied with their past work. Nor are they insensitive to new trends in art.
