Hermanus van Wyk (1835-1905), born in the Fraserburg district (South Africa), was the first captain of the Rehoboth Basters. In 1870 he and a few hundred followers settled at Rehoboth south of Windhoek (Namibia) after the Cape colonial authorities refused to grant them land in Bushmanland.
