The opened letter in this painting is a reference to the publishing
of ‘open letters’ in the press for the benefit of informing the public
at large – especially where it involves politicians who are entrusted
to manage public affairs. This letter is a private appeal by an
individual requesting the president to step down. Where mass
action may not have the desired outcome, the author addresses
the president privately, hoping that such an approach may be
more effective.
